The Father (2020) Movie Review: Anthony Hopkins’ Brilliant Portrayal of Dementia and Family Bonds

This film should definitely be watched by those who believe that the family system in the West has completely collapsed. That there’s no concept of a mother, father, sister, or brother, and that people are selfish and materialistic, while our family system is perfect. Perhaps their preconceived notions will change.

Dementia is an extremely dangerous disease in which a person loses their memory. They can’t remember anything about their past life, forgetting everything. The Father is a movie based on this subject. Anthony Hopkins plays the role of a father suffering from dementia. The way Anthony Hopkins has portrayed this character makes it feel like the role was written specifically for him. Perhaps no other actor could have performed this role as well!

Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors. I rate him at the top in terms of acting. In The Father, the 80-year-old Anthony Hopkins delivers a peak performance. The final scene of the movie is a must-watch. Even the hardest of hearts can’t control their emotions. Even if tears don’t fall, the eyes will certainly blur.

At the Academy Awards, Anthony Hopkins was honored with the Best Actor award. The film has an IMDb rating of 8.2.
